Defence Infrastructure Technical Seminar organized by IDSE ( Indian Defence Service of Engineers)
Defence Infrastructure Planning and Management Council of India organized a National Technical Seminar on “Innovations in Infrastructure Technology for Sustainable Development, Project Delivery and Management” under the aegis of Indian Defence Service of Engineers on 17th September, 2015 at Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantt. Shri Raghav Chandra, IAS, Chairman, NHAI was the Chief Guest and Sh Chandan Ghosh, HOD, National Institute of Disaster Management was the Guest of Honour at the Seminar.
The objective of the Seminar was to discuss on burning issues related to Infrastructure Development and technology in the country focusing on sustainable development , Green building norms in Defence Infrastructure works, Innovations to bring economy, Project Delivery and Management. The seminar was well attended by more than 350 delegates from across the country from several organizations including technocrats, academicians and scientists, defence officers, engineers who are involved in creating infrastructure in defence sector to spur a growth of technology in delivery of all defence related infrastructure projects in the country in most efficient way. The predominant partner in defence infrastructure in the country is the dedicated cadre of Indian Defence Service of Engineers (IDSE), encompassing the group of technocrats in the department called the Military Engineer Services.
In his inaugural address Sh Raghav Chandra, IAS Chairman, NHAI highlighted the need of such technical discussions to bring in desired pace of development in infrastructure sector in the country, he also presented the ambitious plan of road infrastructure network in the country by NHAI and bringing in sustainable development model for the growth in the sector. He lauded the initiative taken by the DIPM Council of India in this regard and hoped that the deliberations will bring in desired changes in the sector.
The Founder President of the Council, Shri Pradeep Agrawal, IDSE in his address envisioned that the DPIM Council would strive to become a key stake holder in the country in all aspects of Infrastructure development through group of specialists on voluntary basis, become a partner in ‘Make in India’ and be a voluntary advisory body to Government of India. Sh Agrawal also mentioned that IDSE officers plays a key role in defence township development and maintenance of all strategic assets of the country. All defence townships are operated , maintained on smart city concept by IDSE cadre for the utmost satisfaction of its residents as well as strategic needs of the country.
Shri A K Arora, IDSE, Director General, Military Engineer Services appreciated the efforts of DIPM Council of India in technological innovations for sustainable growth to help containing the global warming. He also stressed the need that in defence townships development, the innovations in technology shall be brought in for efficient land uses, as land is a scarce commodity and therefore there shall be technological interventions to optimize the land uses.
Sh Arora further added that the Seminar provides a platform to IDSE cadre officers and specialist technocrats and scholars from reputed Institutions to deliberate, discuss and brainstorm critical issues and challenges in development of defence infrastructure at required pace and meeting the stringent quality norms and take a structured and holistic approach on the subject.
Several academic institutions including IITs were the academic partner and Construction Skill Development Council, ASHRAE-India Chapter and ISHARE were the technical partners at the seminars. Quite a few professional institutions enrolled as Institutional members of the Council. Overwhelming response was received from professional from various fields during the membership drive carried out at the seminar venue.
